Reverse Engineering Research: What Do I Own That I Can Break?
My upcoming project requires me to reverse engineer an object of my choice by dissecting an object with multiple parts to render each part individually to complete a 3D model. My last class was a very exciting transition from 2D forms into the 3D realm.
Here is a sneak peek from the practice exercise we were given. I am learning more commands that apply specifically to 3D shapes now. This exercise was challenging and required a lot of problem solving and revisiting the same issue with multiple approaches to get it right. It was very rewarding in the end to look at all the shapes together.
Then I began rummaging around in drawers and cabinets of my parents house to find something insignificant that they will likely have forgotten they own so I can break it apart for the assignment. I found this VHS tape that came with our vacuum that broke 2 years ago. Safe to say this VHS holds little purpose in our household and it has some interesting parts visible from the outside through the clear plastic pieces that I'm sure will be fun to mock up in Rhino.
Lastly, I think this is a thermostat of some sort, possibly, don't take my word for it. All I know is I was drawn to the geometric shapes shown on the outside. I have no idea what the inside might look like, but based on the weight of it I have to assume there is more to unveil within.
After listening to what some of the objects were for my peers I decided I wanted to really challenge myself for this assignment. I played the Clarinet for two years and we just so happen to still have it lying around. I think all the parts of this are super unique and it would look fantastic in my portfolio if I can manage to find work arounds for all of the keys.
I'm excited to start!
