Putting Patterns into Practice: 2-D Surface Design

After spending the first month of classes diving in Rhino and learning different commands and functions I was left to my newly learned devices to create my own 2-D surface design. Inspired by the surface designs I photographed myself over the last couple weeks and my thumbnail exploration I came up with this colourful print.

This screenshot was taken in the rendered mode which diluted the appearance of the hatching.

I experimented lots with commands such as InterpCrv, ArrayCrv, Offset, Trim, Mirror, and more to made this psychedelic design. If you look closely you are able to draw some of the shapes of inspiration from my original thumbnails. I focused on organic shapes and curves and modifying geometric shapes to creat someone completely unique.

This image shows the hatchin more clearly and allows for better observation of those offsets and intricate layering of colour. I stuck with more earthy tones for the colour palette so the colour wouldn't be as loud as the design and become overbearing.

I surprised myself with this assignment. I problem solved faster than expected and started using keystrokes that made the process go by quickly. I hardly glanced at my notes as I went along and I really enjoyed the time I put into the final product.
